First ‘Sun’ Day of Summer – Tawharanui

This weekend just gone marked the first weekend of New Zealand summer and as Sunday was also National Surf Day we thought it was rude not to head to our favourite beach, Anchor Bay at Tawharanui Regional Park.

We have been having a bit of a heatwave in Auckland these last few weeks so it would have been easy to think we were well into summer by now. I’m not sure the last time I experienced so many consecutive days of sunshine, it’s been glorious, at times too hot and very dry! The ground is now all parched and the green pastures getting pretty crispy. We joined the crowds and headed for some watery respite. Although when I say crowds, this is New Zealand remember, it was not that busy!

Anchor Bay is found at the very eastern point of Tawharanui and it really is one of the most stunning beaches. Known for its surf and almost white sands it’s a firm family favourite now for us.
